A banknote authentication app

ValiCash is a free app that allows users to quickly authenticate banknotes using their mobile device’s camera. The aim of the app is to help users avoid becoming victims of counterfeiting in regions that use the Euro currency, which includes the majority of European Union countries.

While the usefulness of ValiCash is not limited to tourists, its main strength lies in providing tourists with a way of protecting themselves from counterfeit currencies in places where they would not be as familiar with the currency as at home. It falls into a category of useful travel apps that include things like Uber.

Easily detect counterfeit notes

The premise of ValiCash is simple. The user opens the app, points their device’s camera at the banknote, and the app will tell them if the banknote is authentic or not. It does not require any special inks or anything more than the device’s camera can detect to work.

Simple user interface

The app contains step-by-step instructions to guide the user, including prompts if the camera angle is not quite right or there is not enough light. Once the app has a clear view of the banknote, the authentication process can take less than a second (depending on the device) and will clearly state whether the banknote is authentic or not.

A useful app with limited availability

The technology used in ValiCash is effective and reliable. The app can identify counterfeit banknotes quickly and accurately, giving users valuable peace of mind. It does have some restrictions, however. For example, it only works with euro banknotes, limiting its usefulness to around 19 countries in Europe. It is also only available on Apple devices.
